A taste of the coast

Taste of the coast - The Wandereuse
Nothing like the taste of the sea 🐠

Yesterday we attended a cooking competition and it was so exciting! A friend of ours is studying to become a cook, and yesterday he took part in a competition hosted by the Norwegian network Smak av Kysten (“taste of the coast”). His role as apprentice helped the team, formed by him and an experienced cook, to win the title of “Taste of the Coast Cook of 2017”.

During one and a half hours, each team had to produce a starter and a main course, featuring 50% of salmon and 50% of shellfish. All the dishes were very creative and beautifully presented. We even got to taste them and everything was absolutely delicious. Although I am a sucker for seafood, so I may be biased. Anyways, we were very excited to be able to support our friend in the competition, and even more excited when his team won!

Something new on Valentine’s Day

After the competition, bae and I went to a Brazilian restaurant where I got to try sweet potato fries for the first time… I wonder why the world has kept this beautiful thing from me for so long???? I had never had so soft and delicious fries before, so if you haven’t tried them yet get your hands on some sweet potato fries ASAP. Apart from that, we bought some roses and some Stroopwafels (aka also one of the best things in the world) and chilled at home watching The Fall. And you, did you do something exciting or different on Valentine’s Day?

I love trying new foods. Brazilian food is great, but I have never seen sweet potato fries in any of their restaurants around here. Here, sweet potato fries are on pretty much every menu at any restaurant 🙂

Sweet potato fries are a staple in our house! You can get them almost anywhere in Seattle that also offers regular fries. I like to dip mine in aioli. So yummy!

Sweet potato fries are the best aren’t they? So much more flavor than regular ole fries. I had some sweet potatoe recently in a lasagne as replacement for the pasta. It was amazing!

OMGoodness! This is gorgeous! Love, love, love your blog! I’m with Di, I am crazy for sweet potato fries! Full of flavor and much better for this diabetic than white ones.

I love sweet potato fries! I make them a lot at home as well – so delicious. I actually had a stroopwafel for the first time last year, and they are seriously amazing! I also agree about the seafood – so good! Looks like a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

What a fun cooking competition! And WHAT?!?! you’ve never had sweet potato fries? My favorite!

    • Reply The Wandereuse Feb 18, 2017 at 12:14 PM

I know!!! I have baked sweet potato “fries” before but I believe the ones I tried at the restaurant were actually fried, and I guess that’s why they tasted so differently!!
